A skiing fanatic, an adventurer, and a zestful helper is this weeks twitter.com profile spotlight. He is globe trotter and loves to travel and discover new avenues, loves his family and friends. One of his principles, that he firmly stands by, is to help companies that help people. He now owns and runs earthXplorer Productions, and produces charity related videos, commercials, corporate videos and documentaries. A proud parent, this week JD Andrews, a. k. a @earthXplorer, is our featured profile this week!

Tell us more about yourself, what do you do? Where you come from? Where are you headed?

I was Born and raised in Colorado, and besides skiing I have two loves: travel and video production. I’ve spent more than 12 years traveling around the globe (71 countries across 6 continents), shooting and editing travel/tourism videos for various cruise lines, airlines, and tourist boards. These projects presented several amazing once-in-a-lifetime experiences; Shooting on the locks of the Panama Canal, Taking a 2 man sub 800ft down the Grand Cayman wall, shooting a 2 camera talk show on a glacier in Alaska, shooting the Russian Ballet from my own Box seat, so many amazing adventures!

In 2003, I finally settled “on land” in South Florida when I was hired by a company in Fort Lauderdale to create and run a new video. As the Director of Broadcast Operations, my primary responsibilities were to write, shoot, produce, and edit commercials for high end clients. Also produced a series of podcasts for Porthole Cruise Magazine – one of the first travel-related podcasts to be highlighted on iTunes.?(it’s not there anymore, since I left)

In 2007, I was hired as a Senior Producer/Editor with the original team that launched Plum TV Ch 5 in Miami Beach. In addition to directing the morning show, “Daybreak,” I produced numerous documentaries about unique people and places in South Florida. I developed and produced an eleven episode cooking show entitled “Compliments of the Chef,” and participated in exclusive coverage of Art Basel Miami Beach and The South Beach Food and Wine Festival. I also created exclusive commercials for various high-end companies like Duchamp Jewelers, Cigarette Racing boats, Richard Bertrum Yacht Brokers, famous designer Tui Pranich, the International Polo Club Palm Beach, FBR and jewelry designers to the stars: Citrine by the Stones. I also created award winning charity videos for Kids in Distress and Shake-a-Leg Miami.? I found a new feeling of self worth working on the charity videos. Giving back and helping is a number one goal!

After twenty years in the business, I continue to seek new opportunities for growth and adventure. My work has been honored with numerous international and local awards including three Emmys, five Tellys, four Auroras, two Summit Creative Awards, and two W3 Web Advertising awards.

How did you find out about twitter?

Being a “geek” it was touted as the next big thing, I started and didn’t do much with it then since I love quotes, I thought it would be a great place to share inspiring and interesting quotes but since then, Twitter seems to be flooded with them but there can never be too much positive energy flowing, so It’s great!

Why Twitter.com? Tell us more about your Twittering experience.

I have met people from all over the globe, it is great to hear and learn about different points of view and chat with people you would have NEVER met if it weren’t for Twitter. Not all my followers think like me, that would be boring, I want to hear different sides to different issues!

Plus when my baby was born, I twittered it! It was so amazing to hear what people were saying, giving advice, suggesting names etc. It was featured in USAToday. http://www.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/2009-04-14-twitter-relationships_N.htm

Any set goals with Twitter?

I would like to see a clamp down on the Spam, it seems to be getting out of hand. Other than that, just keep meeting great people and sharing the amazing thing that is our lives!

Do you use Facebook? If yes, which has been more effective towards your cause, Twitter or Facebook?

Yes, I like twitter or that instant connection! I use Facebook for family and friends but I have a fan page for earthXplorer, it needs more work …
