A proud farther of three wonderful children, A brilliant designer, A faithful husband and a man with faith! He is 28 years old and lives in the UK. He loves everything about Design, from prints to websites and he loves working. Most his work is inspirational, especially to us. This weeks we are exited to have, Rob MacKay, a.k.a, @altasp, a.k.a.a @svgrob, as our Twitter Featured Spotlight.
Tell us more about yourself, who is Rob? What do you do? Where you come from? Where are you headed?
I am Rob! Rob MacKay that is, 28 years old father of 3 and husband of one. I am a freelancing coding, graphic design sign making monkey type creature. I was born and raised in the North West of England, so obviously sport the best accent in the UK and have never lived anywhere other than England. Where am I headed, now there’s a question, I suppose career wise I am heading towards more code based stuff the more jobs that I do. I also have been pulled into more community based things like DCTH, Bitrebels.com and admin-ing the CSS Tricks forums – so who knows! As long as it’s something I love doing, that’s good enough for me.
So my real money making end of the business is done from 2 websites where I kind of work in far too many areas! First and foremost I came into freelancing from signs, this involved working in vinyl and digital large format printing. This birthed me into the small end vehicle, window graphics and signage, this is done from www.svgonline.co.uk and has become more of a hobby than anything else! I trained in 1998 in web design and development and although I had kept up with it in learning CSS and the newer versions of HTML I had never really expected to be making websites again, but here I am working from http://alteredaspect.info again as a freelancer.
Why Twitter.com?
It was all Jay from Bitbox.com, he posted giving 101 reasons to follow him on twitter, this made me sign up – and the rest as they say is history.
Tell us more about your Twittering experience.
It’s been awesome, I have met so many great people that I would never have met – from the UK to the rest of the world. Not only that I have also plugged into a great design/development community that kind of work as some collective professional conscious giving me access to years of experience, rants, IE hate and of course jokes.
How often do you twitter and mostly what for?
I use it everyday, mainly just to keep up with everyone. I obviously use it to host EDCTH every Thursday. I would say that using it on a social basis has really enriched my professional side as well. I have gotten jobs and worked with people I would never have worked with before without twitter.
Any set goals with Twitter?
If there were really any goals that I would with twitter it would be a growth in the valued friendships that I already have also meeting new people, helping and getting to know them and possibly working with them as well.
Is twitter helping you get your message out in the open?
Yes, 100% - With twitter I have not only access to the graphic design & development world but also the rest of the twittervese as it’s called
Do you use Facebook? If yes, which has been more effective towards your cause,
I do use Facebook, but I am not a prolific Facebook user – its good to stay in touch with friends but I have not used it for anything more than that really.
Twitter or Facebook?
I just see them both as very different, so both in different areas.
Rate your experience on Twitter, on a scale of 1 to 10.
Would have to be a 10
