Andrea 1

Andrea 1

A 30-something, Beamer lover, “designer-preneur” and a teacher, with the right mix of design, flair and sophistication, who was born and raised in Europe and is a freelance designer, who loves her work and while working on her beloved MBP, loves touring the world.

She is the brains behind artsypapers.com, and runs her freelance business with divinefusiondesign.com. She loves good food, good company and great music. Now a complete “americano”, as of date she stays in Seattle, Washington. She has very rich heritage, and her designs have always been influenced directly from her surroundings.

She holds an “Achievement Scholarship” from the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, MN and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She has taught art classes to children and adults, both and has served on the College of Visual Arts Board of Alumni in St. Paul, MN.

Nothing gives us more pleasure, but to have Ms. Andrea La Valleur-Purvis, a.k.a @divinefusion, this weeks Twitter.com Featured Profile!

Tell us more about yourself, what do you do? Where you come from? Where are you headed?

I’m a European freelance graphic designer, now living in Seattle. A few years ago I stepped out into the world of freelancing, which has allowed me to take my MBP to see the world…working where Wi-Fi is a constant. Ok, this sounds fabulous, but most days I do the hustle from 6 am to the late evening hours. I divide my time between designing for work, for the future* and to help make the world a better place, One Pixel At A Time™. Freelancing allows me to take the time to teach kids in our community, mentor junior designers and travel. Now regarding the little *. In May I launched a new project, that is currently under development. Read more here artsypapers.com . Busy people get things done, right? : )

Why Twitter.com?

Earlier this year, I noticed the design community taking twitter to a whole new level of global community, 24 hours a day. I quickly found tweeple with common interests and goals, offering advice, resources and a creative outlet to chat, real-time, globally.

Tell us more about your Twittering experience

I’ve connected with several key people via twitter, expanding my creative network and meeting great people. I now chat with creatives from all around the world on a regular basis. This broadens my exposure on so many levels. I now have access to international resources, almost immediately as they are released. Previously, I would have to read these articles in a magazine or book.

How often do you twitter and mostly what for?

I use twitter during the work week, mainly as a communication/networking opportunity with other creatives. As a freelancer, I find it especially vital to connect with other designers, dev teams, artists and writers. We inspire each other, not just creatively but also in our day to day lives. Working from home can often seclude you from the office environment. For example, @svgrob and I have created a mini-office, chatting daily, offering critique and feedback on current projects, brain storming on the best solutions and give ourselves the freedom to let off a quick rant or encourage each other.

Any set goals with Twitter?

Twitter has been a fantastic tool to gain insight to peoples day-to-day lives, capture the latest (design) news. I look for tweeple who engage in conversations, have interesting posts and participate in the creative community, like www.dcth.info

Is twitter helping you get your message out in the open?

Absolutely. This is real-time-marketing/networking/community. Audience is key.

Do you use Facebook? If yes, which has been more effective towards your cause, Twitter or Facebook?

I use Facebook as a personal ‘place,’ since its more than just ’status updates,’ connecting with friends who I have relationships with.

Rate your experience on Twitter, on a scale of 1 to 10.

10. No bad experiences yet.

Any message to our readers?

Believe in yourself. I believe you can do anything you choose to pursue. Set a goal and go for it. Don’t wait for opportunity to knock on your door. Start something!
